Technology ecosystem

The vendors, and what each one is for.

A line card is not a strategy. Each of these is here because it answers a specific requirement well, and because we have deployed it often enough to know where it stops being the right answer.

25 vendors across 4 solution domains.

Hardware

Workplace and data-centre hardware, specified for the job.

Compute and end-user devices

  • Lenovo

ThinkPad and ThinkSystem, the default fleet and rack-server line across most of our deployments.

  • HP

Desktops, workstations and A3 print in mixed estates, and where an existing standard already sits here.

  • Dell

PowerEdge and Precision, typically where the client’s standard build and support contract are already Dell.

  • Huawei

Compute and storage for cost-sensitive data-centre builds with a UAE support presence.

Storage and backup targets

  • QNAP

Departmental and branch NAS, and backup targets sized for a single site.

  • Synology

NAS with a management interface a two-person IT team can genuinely run day to day.

Print and document capture

  • Epson

Business printing and high-volume document scanning into the workflow rather than into a share.

Network

Networks built from edge to core.

Active networking

  • Ruijie

Access and aggregation switching with controller-based wireless at campus scale, at a price that survives a tender.

  • Cisco

Where an existing estate, a written standard or a compliance requirement calls for it.

  • Huawei

Campus switching and enterprise wireless, particularly on larger single-vendor builds.

  • Netgear

Small-site switching, PoE edge and AV-over-IP where a full campus platform would be over-specified.

Passive infrastructure

  • Norden

Structured copper and fibre, racks, patch panels and containment: the passive plant we certify.

  • Opterna

Fibre infrastructure, splicing and termination components for backbone and riser work.

Software

Software that simplifies collaboration, communication and content.

Business communications

  • 3CX

Business phone systems and contact centre: call flows, queues, recording and supervisor reporting.

Productivity and content

  • Microsoft

365 tenancies, licensing and identity, including the migrations nobody wants to run twice.

  • Adobe

Creative and document workflow licensing for marketing, design and document-heavy teams.

  • Exclaimer

Centrally governed email signatures, so a rebrand is one change rather than four hundred.

  • AutoCAD

Design and drafting for engineering, architecture and the internal teams who produce our own drawings.

Virtualisation and continuity

  • Veeam

Backup and recovery with restores tested on a schedule and retention matched to the policy.

  • Proxmox

Virtualisation where an open platform fits the workload better than the next licence tier up.

Security

Physical and logical security operate as one risk posture.

Video and physical security

  • Hikvision

IP cameras and recording across most site types, from a single floor to a multi-building campus.

  • Dahua

Cameras and NVR estates, frequently where an existing installation is being extended rather than replaced.

  • Digifort

Video management for multi-site estates and integration-heavy deployments with access control and alarm.

Endpoint and network security

  • Kaspersky

Endpoint protection with central management that a small team can actually operate.

  • Fortinet

Firewalling, segmentation, secure remote access and the reporting that has to accompany them.

Artificial Intelligence

AI becomes valuable when it is grounded in secure infrastructure.

What UBM does in this domain

Readiness and use-case advisory
Where AI would pay for itself in your environment, where it would not, and what has to be true about your data and your access control before anything starts.
Secure AI infrastructure and data foundations
The compute, storage, segmentation and identity an AI workload has to sit inside before it is allowed anywhere near real records.
Enterprise knowledge assistants
An assistant grounded in your own documents and systems, answering only from what it has been approved to see, with every answer traceable to its source.
Document intelligence and workflow automation
Reading, classifying and routing what still arrives as PDFs and scans, so a person handles the exception instead of the queue.
Computer-vision analytics
Analytics on cameras that are already installed, limited to the security use cases the client has approved in writing.

The platforms it is built on

Compute, storage and virtualisation

  • Lenovo

ThinkSystem servers sized for the indexing and inference load rather than for a benchmark score.

    Listed under Hardware

  • Huawei

Compute and storage for on-premise builds where the data is not permitted to leave the country.

    Listed under Hardware

  • QNAP

Departmental storage for the document sets an assistant is allowed to index.

    Listed under Hardware

  • Synology

Site storage with a management interface the client’s own team can audit without us in the room.

    Listed under Hardware

  • Proxmox

Virtualisation that keeps the workload in its own tenancy, on hardware the client owns.

    Listed under Software

Identity, data and continuity

  • Microsoft

365 identity and permissions, so an assistant inherits the access rules that already exist.

    Listed under Software

  • Veeam

Backup and tested restore for the data the answers are grounded in.

    Listed under Software

Controls around the workload

  • Fortinet

Segmentation, egress control and secure remote access around the workload.

    Listed under Security

  • Kaspersky

Endpoint protection on the machines that reach it.

What computer vision reads from

  • Hikvision

The installed camera estate vision analytics reads from, where one is already in place.

    Listed under Security

  • Dahua

Existing camera and recorder estates, extended rather than replaced when analytics is added.

    Listed under Security

  • Digifort

Video management that exposes the streams and events analytics needs, with access recorded.

One domain with no vendor list

Services carries no third-party line card. All six lifecycle stages, planning through disposal, are delivered by our own engineers against whatever the client already owns. It is not a product we resell, which is why it has no group above.

Which of these should you actually be buying?

That depends on the estate you already have. Start with an assessment and the shortlist writes itself.
